Modern day living is not very kind to our bodies. We were designed to spend all day running around trying to find enough food to eat. Some days we would not find enough. So it was a good job our bodies managed to have a sneaky way of storing the extra bit of food that we ate yesterday - laying down some fat. Now, however, we still have the same sort of body, but we don’t live with scarcity of food. There’s plenty. So what happens? We eat more than we need, and build up larger and larger fat stores. We become overweight.

It’s even more unfair than that though, as the place where the fat is stored is fixed for your body type. The simple way to do this is to create a calorie deficit - consume less calories than you use. The problem with most diets is that, although they reduce the numbers of calories you consume, they often slow down your metabolism so that you use less calories as well. That is why people on a diet often reach a plateau, where no more weight comes off after the initial few pounds. So in addition to creating a calorie deficit, you need to keep your metabolism racing. That way you burn up more calories even when you are sitting down watching TV. You can do this by making sure that you are eating the right things (not just eating less of what you normally eat), and by doing the right sort of exercise. Cardiovascular exercise like walking, running or swimming is great for burning calories, but you also need some muscle building exercises to boost your metabolism. They also help to develop the sexy, toned look that so many of us are striving for. How do you work out exactly what to do to transform your body? The easiest way is to find out from the experts.
